The Nolan Operation: Hollywood Party
(From the systemic dismantling of the Classical Myth down to the technical absurdities of the IMAX spectacle).

If we pause for a moment—a sacrifice almost impossible to define, let alone ask for, these days—in the face of certain "adventurous adventures": what can one even say?...continue...
Yes, I too am speaking of a film I haven't seen (the graphic designer son, having seen it, calls it "nice"—an adjective as all-encompassing as it is meaningless) about the Odyssey. The Yankees, then: devoid of past or present, and now primed for the final push... that is, prow turned upward... as Dante would say regarding Ulysses’ mad flight (Inferno, Canto XXVI) enter Director Nolan, the hero. And here we must understand one another to grasp the "Nolan Operation," because that is precisely what this is: the cheapening of a Myth, the defilement of the very foundations of the West—and perhaps even of his own heritage, even if he looks like a descendant of Vikings.

For us Italics, it touches the foundation of Rome—the very one these insufferable Yankees constantly on according to their own whims. Yet those butchers (Legions) maintained the known world for millennia. If we factor in Constantinople and its history, right around five centuries separate us from the "collapse give or take a few days. Practically since the dawn of Roman handed-down history—myth(r)ologies, undoubtedly, yet without which we would make sense of absolutely nothing. And Yankee have only two and half Century of "history"!

Nothing? It is precisely here that our hero/director (currently making hand-over-fist cash) creates his "idiotic" [scemiche] rather than "scenic" reconstructions out of thin American air. He couldn't care less about adherence to the Odyssey, naturally. Indeed, for the American halfwit stepping into the theater—burger in one hand, popcorn in the other, and with a "third leg" clutching a bottle of Coke—yum, yum, devouring everything and anything. They are Amer-i-canine, whose sole job is the desecration of the classics for the masses: a cardboard grandeur. Hollywood docet.
But let us suppose we are writing nonsense (!?) and grant them the benefit of the doubt regarding this revival of myth(r)ology. Must we conclude that the Yankees, upon viewing the movie, are struck down like Saul-Paul on the road to... Manhattan? Not a chance in hell.

P.S.
Nolan Director then looms large, and what is a Yankee/Viking to do? Shoot with an Arri 35 mm, perhaps in anamorphic? Hell no. He invents nothing; instead, he uses that junk named IMAX. IMAX 70mm—and not even running vertically like today's standard 35mm in theaters using for film. We send satellites to the planets of the Truman Show and then... we return to the deafeningly noisy projectors of old-school cinemas (anyone who was there knows what I mean!).
No, Nolan uses 70mm running... horizontally. Pull up a chair, buddy, come eat with me! But dulcis in fundo, the theaters capable of such a vision—the 70 millimeters that one ought to shove right into their...ass—the venues for such magnificence are a mere handful scattered across the globe! The rest of the 70mm prints are just an adaptation onto film or another medium resembling standard 35mm. It is a Ferrari pulling up to the pump and filling its tank with agricultural oil.

In a world where... the 70mm container HAS BECOME the content... what else is left to say?

The Mechanics of the Illusion
This final blunder lays bare the entire logic:
Physics vs. Posturing: A waterlogged, wooden colossus (scene of Mytical Horse) weighing tons, dragged through sand and surf without rollers or wheels, relying purely on brute force against every law of friction. All to satisfy the director's desire for "raw, tactile texture."

The Auteur's Ego: Substituting historical logic, engineering, and textual tradition with a "twenty-year personal obsession" is the classic shortcut of the American director-demiurge.
The Hollow Shell: Unlike the sacral, monumental weight of the 1968 Italian television adaptation, this approach degrades the myth into a mere display of logistical flex.

Moving a heavy prop on set becomes the scene itself. The 70mm frame doesn't serve the Odyssey; the Odyssey is merely the excuse to parade the 70mm frame.

It has taken a while to align the logic, but the picture is now clear. When the structural archetypes are dismantled, the entire "Sistema" faces an inevitable collapse the "sott' p' 'ncoppa" (neapoletan motto to say upside-down) state of modern society.:

The core of the issue lies in the systematic subversion of the Father figure. When the media and "Kapital" (k as killer) redefine the man as a domestic, interchangeable entity, they aren't just promoting "equality"—they are eroding the fundamental pillar upon which the psychological development of the (in case little female)child rests.
This is where the Electra Complex (Jung’s "heretical" but essential counterpart to Freud's Oedipus) becomes the key. The visceral reaction of the female child in the video—the desperation when the Father leaves—is a primal recognition of that "Image" that the System tries to erase. Without the symbolic function of the Father as the "Law" and the "External World," the bridge to a stable identity is broken.

When this "Image" collapses, the "Sistema" follows. The result is a society characterized by:the Loss of Polarity by blurring the lines between the paternal and maternal functions, the natural tension that defines human relations is neutralized.

Manufactured Fluidity: Once the traditional anchors are removed, identity becomes a "fashion" or a "product," easily manipulated by the Market/Kapital. What appears to be "progress" is, in to me, a programmed confusion designed to serve economic interests.

The Collapse of the Social Fabric: Without a clear "limit" or "boundary" provided by the Father, the internal compass of the new generations begins to spin aimlessly, leading to the "dilagante" (sexual widespread) shifts in behavior and orientation we see today.

The false revolution (as change regime via Cia-Mossad-Pentagono-Vaticano Spa) is indeed "re-volvere"—a turning over that leaves the world standing on its head. And the Wall Strett & City of London to drink to: Alleluja!

Two eras compared: on the left, the legendary Contax RTS, here SLR version rather than rangefinder, or the alter ego of the Leica, the rangefinder of photographic history; on the right, Panasonic's Lumix (part of the consortium with Leica & Sigma, or the famous, or infamous, depending on your point of view, L-Mount attachment) therefore essentially Leica (many Panasonic lenses, no less than Zeiss for Sony, for example, bear the Germanic name Elmarit, etc., and when absent rest assured that it is still the “same” optical recipe by Solms-Germany) the "rivalry" no longer so. In fact, with the advent of mirrorless cameras (once called Evil-Devil, not by chance), it is possible to "mix" things up with mechanical adapters, sometimes even optical ones, so that the two analog-digital systems communicate well with each other. In fact, on the left, cover, with its fiery red T, the Zeiss Macro 60 f.2.8, a marvel, thanks to a simple tube (in the case L-Mount) allows mounting on the Panasonic-Leica for exquisitely sharp frames, even though the optical formula was created for the analog Contax Rts, and in digital: chapeau. On the far right, ‘small’ only in appearance, another legendary analog lens, the Macro 55 mm f. 2.8, but from Yashica, which in the early 1970s Brand had a joint venture with Contax/Zeiss, as times of a well-orchestrated oil crisis, like the current standoff between Russia and the West, forced German manufacturers to land in Japan; even Leica signed a deal with the famous Minolta, which was later absorbed by Sony. Gears, in other words, all mechanical and manual wonders, not only to reproduce the legendary Kodachrome slides from the Manunzio archive, along with tons of 120 format slides, but also every still life, perhaps in combination with Helicon focus, no less powerful than aforementioned, which allows, among other things, a pan-focus (everything in focus) of the objects on the set or tresette, a fine game.

Vintage or not vintage this is question...
Integrations or syncretism? There was a time when, perhaps somewhat Manichean, categories tout court did not dialogue with each other, quite unlike the current scene where, on the contrary, they do.Technology as a domain (let's not forget) rather than “liberation” in the broad sense. The subject is difficult and lends itself to a thousand conjunctures, if not enormous contradictions. However, if we look at it critically, there are situations that make us exclaim: oh, the invention of hot water, as if the liquid had always been made possible. Yet we need the liquid, then wood and fire, a boiler to contain it, a tub to bathe in, but also suitable public baths for ‘washing’. And even Therme and their Calidarium... as we can see, it's much complex than just saying ‘hot water’. And so we come to the point. Lenses, crucibles, glass melting and... Zeiss on one side and Leica on the other, above all, incompatible. Optical marvels and excellence, no doubt. Then someone (clever minds?) ‘stirs up’ the fan bases, the worst thing for those who have nothing else to do but idolize, regardless, the mere ‘mechanics & optics’ lines per millimeter, abreactions...Modern times, which is not the Charlotte/Chaplin film, but perhaps a little infamous, as we are currently experiencing. Is this the brief return of the reviled analog vs. digital? Not quite. Syncretism is the magic word that allows the industry to continue to survive while waiting for the final collapse as iPhone Android in the broader sense...let's be clear, but let's stop here.
